Gaelic Lane Café + Studio

I did a double-take when I crossed the threshold this time, as a man was passionately playing a piano, making me wonder if I stumbled on a private event. Quick glance around the rather extensive, basement-hang-out-like venue confirmed everyone was pretty relaxed and in their own conversations, so I progressed to the counter at the far end to make an order.

474 by Cup

But 474 has grabbed my eye with its quaint decor and that little shop full of promise. There are a handful of seats inside and you can grab yourself a decent lunch here too, but I was set on a pop-in and go, so ordered my mocha, plus a pistachio cookie alongside it. Before leaving, I lifted the lid for a quick pic snap and taste.

Cafe Twenty One

My enthusiasm waned when I realised the coffee shop is adjacent to the train station (which I thought had been terminated – shows you my ignorance!); past experience never delivered a quality coffee in such context…

Töst

A couple of people had approached me recently, excitedly asking: “Have you been to the new place yet?” – which made me instantly share in that excitement… Sadly, it didn’t take long to discover that this one came at the expense of another – the Milk Jug did not make it.

Turquoise Cafe & Eatery

Indeed, the cakes on display were a feast for the eyes: the portions were huge but beautifully executed, each presented on its own glass domed tray – and that’s how they were served to the table, as I soon discovered.

Grounded

I had been sort of paying attention on my way down from South Mount Street but obviously not well enough – “or he was pulling my leg”, I thought, confirming my suspicion that, surely, there cannot be yet another great coffee shop in Rosemount?!
