Turns out there are plenty of coffee enthusiasts in my office and I’m very grateful for their eagerness in sharing new venue recommendations. This one might have been prompted by my recent review of Kava as I was quizzed on whether I tried any of the other “trailers by the beach”. It would seem that this is the preferred cafe format for the Esplanade when you’re drinking only, albeit I have no doubt the traditional brick-and-mortar establishments are still queued out the door on weekends.

After my fabulous previous experience I had no reservations in following the trail to the newly recommended Giddy Cup Coffee, albeit this time I arrived from the amusement park area – which means that only after my purchase I passed the other recent recommendation that I am yet to visit: Cairn. I was kicking myself for not prepping better as I have unintentionally made this a very close competition – Giddy Cup is just next door to Kava. This was going to be fierce.

It was good to see proper chocolate bits being stirred into the bottom of the cup rather than powder, but I felt a bit flat when the milk was rapidly poured over and covered with a lid without any attempt at latte art or even a final mix of the ingredients.

Be it my expectation or actual execution, this mocha did not have as potent flavour as its neighbour; it tasted milkier and neither the chocolate nor the coffee came through particularly strong. The concoction had a good texture and was nice enough… it simply wasn’t moreish.

I know who wins on this part of Esplanade… but one more is yet to be tested before the summer ends. Watch this space!
