I don’t like crowds anyway, so first impressions where great: lovely decor – simple but fresh, with warm fairly lights and plenty of wood all around; tranquil atmosphere and nice old school tunes (cue The Beach Boys) are just right up my street.

But, as I discovered this time round, there have been further changes: the Rocksalt & Snails was no more, replaced by Coppa Coffee, a venue under new ownership which I’m yet to try out; and also, down past the school and round a kids’ shoe shop on the corner of the street, there’s The Long Dog Cafe.

Tastes of the Seaside

It’s been more than a decade since I visited the biggest of the Polish Tricity – a metropolis of three cities over the Balric Sea; in fact, I never stayed there more than a day, always camping with the folks at nearby Sopot. Back then, I would have not had coffee either, so it’s fair to say that this return to the homeland was, in fact, a completely new experience.

That sunny, blue-sky Saturday morning called for a road trip – and, as promised quite recently, it had to be Ballater, as there was a new walk to be done and an old coffee shop to be checked out again.
