Potarch Café

Now that spring has finally spring on Scotland’s east coast, I was definitely ready for a walk away from Aberdeen, but chose a short-ish one that I hadn’t done yet in Aboyne. I renewed my search for coffee in the area, and when Google suggested Potarch Bridge, I was certain that was the one my colleague all those years ago mentioned.

Coppa Coffee

En route I had decided to try Coppa first, since I bypassed it last time on my way to Orka – and I thought it would make for a good study – comparing two coffee shops, just a block apart. The site for Coppa used to house Rocksalt & Snails, which may be why I had weary feeling about it to this point. It wasn’t, however, until writing this post that I realised I had actually been to Coppa since they took over – and rated it better than its predecessor.

Corner Tree Café

There is a range of options presented to you in the form of cake cabinet on the side, as well as menu boards for daily hot specials. With their regular menu also displayed in the window it is easy to make up your mind before you enter, so it was a quick process for me again – a coconut alternative mocha was soon being prepped as I peeked into the windows of their shop next door (the other options were oat and soy, all at a 30p supplement)

Pavilion Cafe

Even though I wouldn’t rate the coffee the highest, I would certainly recommend paying the Pavilion a visit – I know I will, even if it’s just for one of the extensive selection of scrumptious looking homemade cakes…

The Kitchen Works

Even though the biting winter cold did not encourage long walks, I still decided to venture to the Works, to give my escapade a bit more purpose (coffee research, no less) – and was very surprised to learn that the venue was actually huge, extending far from the narrowish entrance.

Parx Cafe

Having lived in this city for more than three years now, you’d think I’d know all of its coffee secrets – but, alas!, Aberdeen still throws up a surprise in some of the most unexpected places. Parx Cafe was one of those revelations.
