Potarch Café
Now that spring has finally spring on Scotland’s east coast, I was definitely ready for a walk away from Aberdeen, but chose a short-ish one that I hadn’t done yet in Aboyne. I renewed my search for coffee in the area, and when Google suggested Potarch Bridge, I was certain that was the one my colleague all those years ago mentioned.

This place has popped up in a few conversations with Aberdeen(shire) people that have become aware of A Black Spot; they would ask if I had been yet – suggesting it was worth a visit.
Spider on a Bicycle
All in all – considering the evident artisanship in the produce and use of ingredients such as chocolate flakes over powder – I don’t rate it as a bad experience, and there is tangible passion in the place that makes you leave with a smile on your face. I will certainly be back once normal service resumes.
Crathes Castle Courtyard Cafe
Following that short stopover, I did continue my exploration of the surrounding forest, and there’s still a few trails for me to discover. Rest assured, I will certainly be back – and, regardless of how I believe a proper mocha should be made, I will probably end up having another one of those when I visit next time.
