Mozart Concierge (Flowers and Coffee)

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

When it comes to restaurants and coffee shops, besides the food and drink itself, what I rate highly is a well-thought-out design that brings it all together: that includes location, decor, menus and dress code.

And for someone who reviews a lot of cafés, it’s quite exciting to find a hidden gem, something different, that pulls off a quirky concept – the Attendant is a great recent example. Unsurprisingly, for this special find we’re staying in London.

When an Instagram reel featuring Mozart popped up on my “For you” feed, I hit “Save” instantly. I then retrieved the video on my next trip to the Capital, but only after I actually spotted someone walking down Piccadilly with a flowery 2-cup holder, which triggered my memory.

The cafe is, indeed, very Piccaddilly-central, although finding it on this occassion was made a bit tricky due to the scaffolding right outside its door, hindering visibility. The place is also quite small, with only a few window-sill seats on one side of the door, and a couple of tables beside a sofa seat on the other. Apart from these café-givaways, first impressions would definitely indicate a florist; and the customer at the counter was making a seemingly complicated flower order too, which took some time, allowing me to locate the famous flower cups, displayed in rows on a shelving unit.

The pre-made sets were clearly marked with a £15 price tag (a fiver more than the Insta reel), which wasn’t an issue considering flowers are a rather pricey commodity back at home, let alone in Mayfair.

What I did find disappointing was that the arrangements weren’t being made on the spot, as social media had me believe – but I also appreciate that such process would not be the most time or cost effective for neither side. The pre-made bouquets were quite diverse so there was a good selection to choose from while a requested coffee was being made, and that then served on the side in the branded paper cup, for the customer to decide whether they’re staying in to drink it, or popping it in the carrier to go – the latter seeming the only appropriate option. Mozart Concierge want their coffee to be seen as an accompaniment of their flowers, and I was happy to oblige, brandishing my set with chic pride.

Mocha and flowers bundle at Mozart Flowers and Coffee

I didn’t go far as I had to perform a taste test after all. And, alas, the flavour did not live up to the looks; my coffee was lacking sweetness, resembling more a latte than a mocha; but I imagine there was some chocolate used because the concoction had a somewhat grainy/powdery mouthfeel to it.

I drank most of it just so that I didn’t have to worry about spilling it on my lovely flowers which – call me crazy – I took with me on the plane (I mean, considering what I had paid…); and, I have to say, I was astonished when they lasted another 10 days looking perky!

Overall, it was a fun experience that gives a new – fresh – meaning to a “takeaway” coffee, and would certainly make my day doubly enjoyable if someone had proffered that to me instead of a cup from a high-street chain; but considering the coffee is not the strong point here, it is a gimmick – and one of these is quite enough.

Price

£15 for bundle

£3.70 for mocha only

Verdict justification

Something different that will put a smile on your face – but the coffee is more of a side show here.
