If you read the review of Thyme Out, you knew I would be making my way to Moossh Cafe eventually.
Oddly, a few months on, the venue still doesn’t have a website and you need to do a bit of digging to understand what sort of an establishment it is. The name suggests a coffee stop but those who had spoken to me about it, referred to it as a “wine and sharing platter” place. I did manage to find some reviews with photos of the menu, which seemed to confirm the latter, plus a side serving of pizzas; but those reviews also referenced coffee and cakes… I had been looking for a Friday hangout place with the girls, so I thought either way it’s worth a reccy – and so I headed there on a Sunday afternoon.
The outdoor terrace at the front was now complete but mostly drowning in shade, so even though this was a proper summer’s day (we do get them in Scotland occasionally), I chose to sit inside.
On entry you are met with a pastry case and the counter / bar where orders are picked up for waiter service to table; the rest of the venue was occupied by tables of different shapes but all quite considerable sizes, inviting larger groups – or larger orders.
I loved the decor: tropical greens mixed with pink – a combo that doesn’t sound great on paper but in real life delivers a stylish and relaxed effect.
I sat on the bench seat at a window table, instantly regretting my decision as the sunlight was beaming through the glass, cooking my backside; but it was a great vantage point to observe the half-full venue, which was emptying out at that time. I only spotted wine or beer drinkers, and empty plates being cleared so I couldn’t comment on the food, of which there were different options; besides the menu I found online, there was also a wine list and another menu with brunch / sandwich options.
The coffee menu was on the wall by the entrance, and while I was readying myself for a cake as well, the only options available were some pastries, a Blondie and a millionaire’s shortbread, none of which took my fancy, so I just stuck to my mocha.

I liked the presentation when it was served not long after – an earthenware mug and pretty latte art in rich chocolatey concoction. But the visuals were misleading! The drink tasted quite bland, lacking sweetness or a caffeine punch and tasting mostly of hot milk. The temperature was good but that was about it in terms of the positives… there was certainly cocoa in it as drags were visible on the bottom… but maybe not enough of it in the recipe for the rather substantial cup.
There was nothing to keep me sitting there and so I made my exit, a bit disappointed that Moossh did not woo me with the coffee as much as it did with the decor. I will still make a return for a savoury experience, for a catch up with my cat-loving girls in a classy, tropical ambiance – but as a cafe, it won’t rate highly on the list.

Verdict justification
Beautiful interior for a brunch or wine with charcuterie, but crafted coffee doesn’t meet expectations.
