Longparke Farm

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

It had been ages since I’d seen a friend of mine who lives near Dundee, and for a good reason – she is a first-time mum, and me – not really a baby person – did not feel in a position to interfere. A catch up was way overdue now, so I invited her to suggest a venue where she would feel comfortable, close to home. I had been planning a visit to RSS Discovery (link here if you’re interested) anyway so was happy to make the journey south. Without hesitation she suggested Longparke Fram Shop; and since this was a new place for me, I also didn’t hesitate in agreeing.

Upon arrival it was clear this was not her first time there – she knew exactly where to sit for her and her 8-month baby’s comfort, where she could watch after her but also had the freedom of both hands to enjoy her breakfast.

As is always the case, the hours passed in conversation, so after a black americano with my food, there was plenty of time to enjoy a second coffee – mocha time! Although, I did question my decision once the large cup arrived…

The presentation was also highly suggestive – the dark cocoa made it look more like a hot chocolate, and rightly so – the concoction was pretty sweet, lacking in caffeine as well as temperature.

I’m sad to say that I enjoyed my Americano more (I drained it quite quickly actually, so the coffee itself is not an issue).

However, the place is large, very comfortable and accommodating of solo fliers and families with kids alike. The menu compliments that with various choices and food that is flavoursome but not greasy; plus, there’s an enticing selection of tray-bakes and cakes in the cabinet next to the till – thank goodness I only spotted it when we came up to pay, or my waistline would have called for a row boat in place of a leisurely excursion around an expedition ship that followed…

Verdict justification

A nice venue off the beaten track but not a hidden wonder when it comes to crafted coffee.
